2023 is bringing new beginnings to NASA’s Florida region, as the new breed Spec E9x class was in full swing at the January event at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The new class of cars were on full display and driven in anger as this event featured the first race between drivers Carlos Mendez and Curtis Buxton in their Condor Speed Shop sponsored cars. The two had some great battles as the weekend’s weather and sunshine proved optimal for some truly quick lap times for all participants.
Other E9x’s were in attendance as well in both HPDE and TT classes, some of which were fully built to Spec class rules. Participants Logan Dewar and Matt Lopez each had great success in their respective HPDE groups. Matt successfully graduated to HPDE 3 and Logan premiered his new build completed by father and son in his first ever performance driving event. Meanwhile, TT driver Jonathan Bowerman had success in chipping away at his best lap time throughout the weekend in his sedan due to some tweaks he made in the pits to his Corsa Technik sponsored machine.
The cars themselves performed flawlessly with no issues, further proving the class’ integrity and potential.
With a great weekend in the books, one can’t help but be excited for what’s to come. Next up on the calendar will be a joint event at NOLA in February followed by another Homestead event in late March.
