Why Choose Polycarbonate Windows?

Polycarbonate windows have become a popular alternative to traditional glass windows in the racing industry, gaining traction mainly for their performance advantages. Odds are that you have come across these windows in one form or another, but why do racers prefer polycarbonate windows? Enhancing your BMW with polycarbonate windows can give you an edge on the track, providing crucial advantages over traditional glass. These benefits include:

  1. Weight Reduction: Polycarbonate is considerably lighter than glass, reducing overall vehicle weight and lowering the center of gravity for improved handling and stability.
  2. Superior Impact Strength: With its impressive impact resistance, polycarbonate will not shatter, increasing safety where crashes and collisions are a risk and complying with the stringent requirements of most racing series.
  3. Durability: Polycarbonate is highly durable and can withstand the rigors of racing, including debris kicked up from the track and the stresses of high-speed driving.
Boost Track Performance with Polycarbonate Windows

Boost Track Performance with Polycarbonate Windows

Reducing the weight of your windows can drastically improve your BMW's handling and lower its center of gravity (CoG), leading to lower lap times and more stable performance. By installing polycarbonate windows, you’re not just shedding weight; you’re transforming how your race car interacts with the track. Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Lower Lap Times: By reducing weight high up, the center of gravity is lowered, improving stability and cornering performance, crucial for achieving better lap times.
  • Improved Handling: With a lower center of gravity, the car becomes more responsive to steering inputs and exhibits less body roll during cornering, allowing for more consistent driving and better on-track performance.
  • Safety Compliance: Our polycarbonate windows meet the safety standards required in many racing leagues, which often prohibit the use of OEM glass windows.

By upgrading to poly windows, you'll leverage their lightweight advantage for lower lap times and overall improved performance.

Rear Windshields

To fully realize the performance and safety advantages of polycarbonate, extending its application to your rear windshield is essential:

  • Weight Reduction Where It Matters Most: Reducing weight up high in the vehicle decreases its rotational inertia, allowing for quicker and more nimble handling characteristics.
  • Performance & Safety: Reduces overall vehicle weight which is crucial for maximizing grip and traction, and meets track safety standards.
  • Customization: Our poly rear windshields can easily be cut and modified to fit the specific requirements of a racing car. For example, to route radiator ducting through the rear of the car.

Overall, the combination of lightweight, safety, and customization options makes rear polycarbonate windows an ideal choice for racing cars, where performance and safety are paramount.

Door & Rear Quarter Polycarbonate Windows

Door & Rear Quarter Polycarbonate Windows

Now that you know all about our rear windshields, you may be wondering how our door and rear-quarter windows differ:

Enhanced Adaptability for Front-Side Windows

Our polycarbonate door windows are tailored for the unique travel demands of getting to and from the track on an open trailer and protecting your racing car's interior from the elements. They feature optional window sliders, catering to regulations by many American Rally organizations, which mandate upgraded, non-removable polycarbonate windows. Our front windows can be completely removed to meet standards put in place by road-racing series such as SCCA and NASA.

Optimized Cooling with Rear-Quarter Windows

The rear-quarter windows are designed to be permanent, with the option of adding NACA duct cutouts. These cutouts are ideal for racers looking to incorporate additional cooling ducts, enhancing air circulation to specific areas within the vehicle – a critical factor in maintaining lower temperatures during high-intensity races.

Simple Installation Tips for Polycarbonate Window Kits

Our polycarbonate window kits are easy to install, ensuring you can quickly upgrade your BMW with minimal hassle. Here are the basic installation tips (keep in mind every window has different specific install instructions):

  1. Remove Old Glass: Safely remove the factory glass from the window channels and clean the area to prepare for the new installation. Sometimes the glass needs to be cut out, and sometimes it simply unbolts.
  2. Preparing the Polycarbonate: You'll need to peel the protective plastic off the inside. Some windows have an inner channel separating the outer frame. Peel the plastic off and paint it black before peeling the rest off and installing it for that OEM look.
  3. Installing Door Windows: Place the polycarbonate windows into the original window channels. For door windows, secure them with pins for easy removal. When dealing with permanent installations, the window will not roll down, but you can add a pass-through with our slider kit add-on.
  4. Installing Rear Windshield & Quarter Windows: Use rivets, rivnuts, or factory seals for rear windshields and quarter windows to ensure a durable fit. Consider adding a NACA duct cutout for enhanced airflow through the flexible Neoprene Ducting, available as an additional feature.

With these simple tips, upgrading your BMW with polycarbonate windows is straightforward, ensuring you're back on track lighter and faster than ever before.
