Rear subframe failure is a well-documented issue on the BMW E46 chassis, and notably, the E46 M3 did not receive factory sheet metal reinforcement at the rear subframe mounting points. Over time, repeated load concentrates in these areas, leading to cracking, tearing, and expensive repairs if left unaddressed.
Our Rear Subframe Reinforcement Plate Kit is designed to address this problem directly by reinforcing the subframe mounting points on the chassis. The plates thicken the surrounding sheet metal and distribute load over a larger area, reducing stress concentration and helping prevent cracks from forming or progressing.
Precision cut from 14-gauge steel, this kit can be used both to reinforce an intact chassis as preventative maintenance and as part of a proper repair on cars already showing signs of failure. The plates are intended to be welded into the chassis, becoming part of the structure rather than a surface patch. Professional installation is recommended.
